Book Review about the Novell “ The Metamorphosis” By Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka is one of the major figures, in German
literature. his novella ‘The
Metamorphosis’ is considered classic in the history of German literature as
well as world literature . It is the character of Gregor Samsa
who is centered main character throughout the Novell. It is due to his
overnight metamorphosis which create the
entire story. Gregor belongs to middle class family. He lives with parents and he has one sister whose name is Grete. Gregor’s
mother suffers from Asthma but she works hard to meet the need of the family. While his father enjoys
retirement because Gregor supports family financially. Due to rapid
Urbanization and Industrialization between 1880 to 1914 these occurred unemployment problem in
Prague. This situation is clearly reflect through the character of Gregor. He was
travelling salesman. Who sold clothes it is due to social responsibility of
family. Gregor works hard although he does not like working as a salesman. Though he works
day and night his boss and his manner are not happy with his performance. That is
why he hates his job.
However , he close not
withdraw from responsibility and that is why he confines working as an ordinary
, common salesman . and than the night
Gregor Samsa who is transformed into a monstrous insect. The novella begins
with the metamorphosis of Gregor from human being to a bug. He was
not aware about his transformation. He just took it as his night more, however Gregor burley
understood. When he speaks it became very difficult for Gregor to handle the
situation . he suffered a lot due to his
transformation . however, the character of Gregor Samsa is presented with
alienation, despair, frustration, pain and suffering. Due to his job daily Burdon
and his change into a disgusting bug,
Gregor becomes victim of alienation,
despair and finally frustration. His frustration symbolizes the absurdity of existence
and disorienting effect of modern life. however,
the Gregor Samsa transform to a bug. His father throw the apple in Samsa and
the rudely behavior . there are many problem and suffering of the Gregor Samsa
. however , he brings abnormal and unusual change to reveal the pain and
suffering of Gregor and other modern
young manlike him. It is due to his job as a salesman , Gregor feels as
marginal and insingnificant as a bug or vermin. And later sometimes Gregor died
in the end of March.
